If Arsenal are serious about changing their setup to compete for the Premier League next season, they may have been handed their first move.
The Gunners have expressed a desire to make multiple shifts in the boardroom and on the pitch, with nobody’s future in the clear at this stage.
And it looks as if Marseille are ready to capitalise on the position the North London club find themselves in with a tempting bid for Olivier Giroud.
According to a report taken up by FranceFootball, the Ligue 1 side have made the striker a priority target for their summer business and are readying a £20m bid.
Despite signing a contract extension this season, Giroud has found himself on the bench for the majority of this campaign, leaving him to question his future.
The Frenchman will turn 31 in September and given the competition of Danny Welbeck, Alexis Sanchez and Lucas Perez he could be tempted to call it quits.
Arsenal will also have a lot to consider if Marseille come knocking, because £25million for a player that has come off the bench 19 times this season may be too good to turn down.
Giroud has netted on 13 occasions this season, starting just 14 games in all competitions, and is now second in command following Wenger’s formation change.
Marseille believe Giroud could be tempted by the promise of regular football, as well as the chance of returning to play in France.
Not only would it improve his chances in the national team, it would be a fitting way to draw a curtain on his career, so he may have a few sleepless nights to come.
