Last week we brought you news from reputable sources that Arsenal were eyeing a stunning move for one of Europe’s best forwards.
It seemed hard to believe that Arsenal had a chance of signing a player that just led his team to a title win and was once wanted by the likes of Barcelona.
But Arsenal are looking to invest significantly this summer, they already have with the £50million acquisition of Ben White, but the summer spending is unlikely to stop there.
News from across England today has continued to suggest that Arsenal have a serious chance of signing Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.
Mike McGrath, speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s Twitch channel, said on Tuesday night that Arsenal are preparing a very good financial package to sign Martinez, if the player is willing to join the club.
Mike’s colleague at The Telegraph, Matt Law, confirmed today that Inter Milan need to make another major sale this summer. They want to keep hold of Chelsea target Romelu Lukaku, meaning Martinez could be the one they are willing to part with.
Journalist Dean Jones has also said today that Martinez wants to come to the Premier League and that he sees Arsenal as a club where he can grow his career. He adds that Arsenal are in pole position for the player currently, due to the lack of competition for his signature. Dean says that Inter Milan value the player at around £65million.
So what’s stopping this from happening?
It’s likely that Arsenal’s current crowded crop of forwards is the stumbling block. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah would likely need to be moved on in order to create space for the Gunners to bring in a new forward.
But Arsenal may not be able to afford to wait to sign Lautaro, with other clubs likely to come in for the Argentinean shortly.
Amongst those who could move for the player are Spurs, who will surely soon be looking to replace Harry Kane. Money won’t be a problem for them either, as they are likely to be armed with more than £100million from Kane’s sale.
Arsenal would probably be wise to get this deal across the line as soon as they can, before looking to move on the likes of Nketiah and Lacazette.
