Whether you love him or hate him, Jack Wilshere has Arsenal Football Club in his blood and having got back to full fitness is ready to end the speculation surrounding his future.
The media have been having a frenzy throughout the summer on where Wilshere’s future lies as reports continue to suggest a major falling out between him and Arsene Wenger.
Following his season-long loan spell at Bournemouth last year, many Gunners supporters had given up on the idea of seeing Wilshere feature in that famous ‘number 10’ Arsenal shirt.
We all know that if it wasn’t for an extremely disappointing injury record, the midfielder would currently be sitting at the top of England’s pecking order alongside Dele Alli and Harry Kane.
However, that long-term goal is not over and having impressed yet again on Thursday night against BATE Borisov, Wilshere has dropped some news about his future during an exclusive interview with The Guardian:
Do I see myself staying? Of course I do. I have always been at Arsenal, I love this club.
They have been good to me over the years, I have a great relationship with the boss. He has played me since I was 17. He has put his trust in me since then. We have a great understanding and of course I want to stay.
I definitely feel I’m back. You are always playing for your future but at the moment I am happy to be back, to feel part of the squad. It has been a while.
It has been a while since I felt a proper Arsenal player but I am back, in training, back in the squad, playing these types of games. I am doing everything I can to stay fit, training well, we will see. I am not looking too far ahead. We have another game Sunday, more League Cup and Europa League so I am happy.
It’s the exact thing we all want to be hearing after his display in the first-half of Thursday night’s game blew us all away, providing an assist for the opener and running the show everywhere else.
There has never been any doubt in my mind as to whether or not Wilshere is good enough to play for this great club and the more minutes he can pick up in these games the better.
Wenger has eased him back into playing more carefully than ever and I think we could see him make a first appearance in the Premier League this season against Brighton on Sunday.
From what he’s said it looks as if he’s matured, not rushing to get back and appreciating the chances he’s been given – if he stays fit this could be his biggest season yet!
