Arsenal are preparing to unveil a new signing, but before you get too excited, it won’t be Alexandre Lacazette just yet!
However, the Gunners are making yet another statement of intent by welcoming Jens Lehmann back to the club to work as one of the first-team coaches.
Some of the most reliable journalists out there are currently reporting the news and it looks as if the German goalkeeper could reach an agreement imminently.
The 47-year-old would not necessarily work as a goalkeeping specialist as that position is currently occupied by Gerry Peyton, a man who’s come under much criticism lately.
But in a bid to help the likes of Emiliano Martinez and Wojciech Szczesny find their feet for regular first team action, there aren’t many more experienced players to call.
Lehmann was part of the Invincibles squad back in the day and picked up over 150 appearances under Arsene Wenger during a five year spell from 2003.
He then made a brief return to the club back in 2011 when Arsenal suffered a major goalkeeping injury crisis and Lehmann was more than happy to help the club out.
It’s understood Lehmann will provide support to the first team mainly and has been hand selected by Wenger to pass on some of the experience needed to win titles.
I really can’t argue with this and neither can I think of many Arsenal legends that would be more welcome at returning to coach these guys, who are desperately in need of some direction.
Lehmann can act as a huge voice from the training ground to the changing room and is a man that wants only the very best for both Wenger and the Gunners.
