Following the conclusion of the first International break, Arsenal return to Premier League matters this weekend. Standing in their way, is Claude Puel’s Southampton.
The international break is always an unwanted period for fans, Arsenal fans in particular. We’re often left praying the club’s injury hoodoo doesn’t come to haunt us.
The injury scare to Shkodran Mustafi just days after signing for the club was thankfully a near miss. Let’s go through the manager’s team news.
Team News
There’s mostly positive news but there are one or two doubts, merely on a fatigue front.
Alexis Sanchez and David Ospina arrived back just yesterday, which means newcomer Lucas Perez could be handed his debut. Wenger will want to protect the Chilean now that there is sufficient offensive cover.
Elsewhere, Aaron Ramsey who suffered a hamstring injury on the opening day will not be risked. However, Alex Iwobi who also came out of that match injured will return to the squad.
Long term aabsentees Per Mertesacker, Gabriel, Carl Jenkinson and Danny Welbeck remain on schedule for their return. Jenkinson is expected back in November with Welbeck still on course to return at the turn of the year.
As for the rest of the team, Â everyone who went on international duty are back fit and available.
