Ian Wright Backs Arsenal Star To Break His Goal Haul

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has backed Olivier Giroud to break his 185-goal haul and believes the Frenchman can become world class.

The Gunners hero stated the claims when speaking exclusively to Goal,  comments which came after Giroud made it eight goals in his last nine games with a last-minute effort against Liverpool at the weekend, helping Arsenal to a 4-1 win.

Giroud picked up the March Premier League Player Of The Month award and his form this calendar year has been superb, with Arsenal unbeaten when Giroud has scored in 2015.

Wright has been one of many praising the formerly under-fire striker, stating Giroud is the number one man at the Emirates.

“Olivier has built himself into the No.1 striker at Arsenal and he’s scoring on a regular basis for his club as well as internationally,”

“People say he doesn’t score against certain teams but that will happen for him the more he plays.”

“I feel he’s someone [Arsenal] should try and tie down and add to. His link-up play is getting even better and though we’ve seen him miss some big chances in games, he’ll learn from that. If he stays long enough he will definitely overhaul my tally at Arsenal, definitely, with his strike rate at the moment.”

Wright did concede that Arsenal need to buy a striker this summer to support Giroud and push them further towards their first Premier League title in a decade.

“I think a club like Arsenal always needs to get another player who can come in and add to the strike force,”

“I hope we can add someone to him and make the team stronger, so it’s not just him bearing the brunt.”
