Amadou Onana, the talented 22-year-old Everton midfielder, has expressed his ambition to play for a top club, a statement that has caught the attention of Arsenal among other potential suitors.
As Onana heads to Euro 2024 with Belgium, he hopes his performances in Germany will pave the way for a move to a bigger stage.
Standard Sport reports that Onana, who joined Everton from Lille in 2022 after rejecting West Ham, is on Arsenal’s radar for the upcoming summer transfer window. The Gunners are keen to strengthen their midfield and have been monitoring Amadou Onana, along with Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, throughout the season.
Onana’s agent, Melissa Onana, revealed back in February that the Belgium star turned down a January transfer from Goodison Park. “We could have left this winter,” she said.
“But we once again sat down and asked the question whether it’s the right time, if the player is ready. My job is to put opportunities on the table.”
Speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws, Onana shared his aspirations: “At previous tournaments, you have seen that the players who did well make the step up to the top clubs. That’s something I strive for. I feel like presenting myself to the European top and showing what I have to offer. This European Championship is a stage.”
With so many options on the table to upgrade Arsenal’s midfield this summer, it will be interesting to see which option Arsenal pursue. Onana, whilst not the biggest name on the list, ticks a lot of boxes for Arsenal. He can play as a 6 or 8, has his prime years ahead of him and is already Premier League proven.
