Gossip: Arsenal’s £10.7m Bid For Italian, Cavani Update & More

With five games remaining in Arsenal’s season, and with the Gunners trailing league leaders Chelsea by ten points, focus has started to shift towards incoming transfer deals for Arsenal this summer- whilst reports are rising regarding out coming deals.

Here’s our take on the latest Arsenal stories and rumours.

Cavani Going Nowhere This Summer, Say PSG (BBC)

Arsenal’s hopes of signing Edison Cavani this summer have taken a major blow, with Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi stating the Uruguayan will remain in the French capital next season- and not even £50m would change that.

He also confirmed that Javier Pastore, another one-time Arsenal target, would also remain- along with un-fire manager Laurent Blanc.

The fact Cavani is not on the move this summer isn’t a major surprise and I personally would have been shocked to see Arsenal complete a deal. A more likely transfer would be Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, if we were to sign a top-class forward this summer.

Arsenal Bid £10.7m For Torino’s Darmian (TuttoSport)

Reports on the contingent suggest that Arsenal will make a £10.7m move for Torino full-back Matteo Darmian this summer, in order to strengthen their back-line.

Darmian scored for his side during the recent derby victory over Juventus and is also reported to be attracting the interest of Manchester United and Barcelona- though the latter have a transfer ban until January 2016.

Arsenal’s interest makes sense as the full-back positions have been an area of vulnerability this season. Whilst Nacho Monreal has performed admirably, the injury problems with Kieran Gibbs have not be erased.

The addition of Darmian would be a decent signing, as the 11-cap Italian international can completely play on either side of the defence.

Arsenal To Discover Gundogan Fate On Friday (Metro)

Arsenal will discover on Friday whether a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will be completed, as Bild state the club have given the midfielder until the end of the week to decide on a new contract.

Dortmund are said to have tabled the offer to the German international and await his response- though they are aware he could leave this summer, along with manager Jurgen Klopp who announced his departure last week.

The Gunners face competition from Manchester United for the player’s signature, with reports earlier in the week suggesting a deal had already been complete with the Red Devils.

Liverpool Reignite Walcott Interest (Mirror)

Liverpool will reignite their interest in Arsenal forward Theo Walcott, after it emerged that the club are extremely unlikely to secure Barcelona’s Pedro due to their lack of Champions League football next season.

Walcott, who is locked in contract negotiations with the Gunners, is a long-term target of the Reds and a boyhood Liverpool supporter. However, Arsenal are reluctant to cash-in on the player who has been on their books since 2006.

Recently, reports indicated a swap-deal could involve Raheem Sterling moving to North London but those suggestions have since died down.
