Form Focus: An In-Depth Look At Chelsea

Arsenal welcome league leaders Chelsea to the Emirates this weekend, as the Gunners look to extend their impressive home form.

Arsene Wenger’s men currently have victory in 9 consecutive games at the Emirates this season, which has revived their season to leave them just short of Chelsea in the Premier League.

It may seem as if the title race is all but over, but Arsenal can halt the Blues from popping the champagne early, by closing the gap to 7 points between the top sides.

We recently witnessed Jose Mourinho’s men pick up a 1-0 win over fellow Champions League qualification contenders, Manchester United, which stretched their lead at the top even further.

PFA Player of the Year nominee, Eden Hazard, confirmed all three points yet again for his side even though they picked up less than 30% of possession throughout the 90 minutes.

Chelsea have picked up a total of 34 points whilst on the road this season, which tops the charts for points picked up whilst playing away.

In their last 10 fixtures, the Blues have only dropped 6 points, which respectively have come from draws to Man City, Burnley and Southampton.

If you’re looking for the last time they lost, then you’re stretching back to New Years Day when Tottenham Hotspur put five goals past Courtois in a thrilling match that finished 5-3.

For a side who have remained top of the league since the season began, they haven’t exactly been shy of finding the back of the net.

Whilst away from Stamford Bridge, they have slotted home 34 goals, the best in the league, which has been helped by the work of Eden Hazard (13) and Diego Costa (19), who is now just one goal away from the title of the Premier League’s top goalscorer.

However, Arsenal can be sure they won’t feel the effects of the Spaniard, as he will miss this weekends game through injury, a welcome relief as we look to maintain our impressive form.

So things won’t be easy for the Gunners on Sunday afternoon, but when you look at the form of both sides you can take one simple conclusion, this is going to be a cracker.

They may already have the title wrapped up, but Wenger will want nothing more than to claim a victory over his London rivals, with a war of words stretching back years between these two managers.

Arsenal will no doubt be looking to find some of that impressive home form this weekend, and without the inclusion of top goalscorer, Diego Costa, Chelsea could find themselves struggling to find a way through.
