Five Thomas Vermaelen Replacements

Curtis Davies

Curtis Davies (29) has played as a central defender for Hull City FC since June 2013. At the age of 15 Davies started his football career as a trainee with Wimbledon. A year later he was released. Having written to every local club within easy reach of London he was taken on trial by Luton Town and played for them from 2003-05. On 31 August 2005 he was signed by West Bromwich Albion, becoming the skipper in 2006, before moving on loan to Aston Villa in August 2007. On his debut game with Aston Villa in September 2007 he said “I was just awful. I didn’t contribute anything. I’ve been bigging myself up, saying I’m ready and obviously I’m not. I’m not good enough to get in the team yet. I’m honest with myself in every performance and that was rubbish – I looked like a pub team player.” Obviously things have changed a lot since then. A year later he signed a four-year contract with Villa. After a spell out on loan to Leicester City, Davies moved to Birmingham City in January 2011 where he stayed until he transferred once again to his current club.

During five appearances for The Tigers in the FA Cup, Davies scored three goals – one of them being against Arsenal in the FA Cup Final.
