If Wenger brings in some aging French reject from Ligue 1, I think we might all go crazy – crazier. Firstly, anyone from that league will likely flop, and he hasn’t bought well from the France in years, even our beloved Koscielny has his frequent implosions. Secondly, there’s really no need to him. It’s closer to home where the solutions to our problems lay. Do you know what’s better? They’re available. Wave some purple notes and they’ll be in red and white if Wenger and Co. really wanted them to be. But that’s just it. It’s up to Wenger, and so anyone talked about below is likely nothing more than a heart-wretched fan fantasy anyway. Still, let’s inevitably dream.
1) Moussa Sissoko
We’ve already been linked with him. I really hope it’s true, because we’ve needed a player like that for over a decade. He’s French, and still only 25, which is nothing, considering his Premier League experience. He’d come in and he’d fly. That’s what we need more than anything in January; a big boost, preferably with really long legs and lots of muscle. He’ll give us power… well, everyone on this list will, in one way or another. Why? Because that’s all we need. Power. Lot’s of it. Everywhere. In the back. In the middle. Get some fight into this timid team. And he’s available. The only concern with Sissoko is he picks up too many little niggles – but then it’d be so Arsenal to buy another injury prone player, so this is a big green light.
2 and 3) Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama
Next we move on to Southampton so we can tear about their super effective team purely for our own gain. That’s what the big teams are supposed to do, anyway. It’s time we stopped rolling over.
They’ve got the most effective defensive midfield partnership in the league in Victor Wanyama and Morgan Schneiderlin. Take both of them, I know it’s cheeky, but just dream for a while, yes, so take both of them and we’re looking at an impressive Arsenal team. And THAT is all it takes to move this team to a new and far more ambitious model. We need a powerhouse defensive midfielder, but two is always better than one. It’ll never happen. But we should at least try Southampton’s hand again. There’s every chance Schneiderlin will have another hissy fit. And in all honesty, it is a disgrace that Arsenal weren’t pushing for Schneiderlin in the summer, and even Wanyama when he was at Celtic. We should have beaten Southhampton to him. Then all this mess would have been solved years ago. But solving problems is so boring to Wenger. He loves a struggling catastrophe. Every damn year.
Schneiderlin is more of a box to box than Wanyama, but would be equally, or more, effective in our midfield. He’s better on the ball than Wanyama, and French. Wenger is also French. Green light. Go.
Wanyama is closer to the type of player we want, though. A real mean powerhouse. Hilariously, or maybe not, he’s dominated in every game he’s played against us. He’ll break up play, and bully opposition. Name another Arsenal player who can do that. Yeh, sorry, you’ll be a while. Loaded question. Unanswerable. Click the navigation below to see 4 and 5.
