Arsenal are clearly eyeing some creative midfield enforcements ahead of the January transfer window.
Although one transfer window has just shut, another will open in less than three months, and Arsenal will be ready to pounce for a new young creative midfielder, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners had a bids rejected for Houssem Aouar in the summer, but he remains ‘at the top of their list’ according to the Italian journalist. He also says that RB Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai is ‘on the list’.
The 19-year-old Hungarian has been heavily linked with a move out of Austria, but nothing came to fruition in the last few months. Standing at 6ft 1′, the midfielder offers a unique blend of technical ability and maturity, youthful exuberance and physical strength and stature.
Arsenal may be forced to look at alternatives to top of the list Aouar, if the club cannot reach an agreement with Lyon and the players representatives.
However, although January is traditionally a tough time to complete deals, Lyon will be looking to raise funds in the winter window, after a number of their proposed sales fell through. 22-year-old Aouar is one of their most marketable assets, but the big money demand for the player has not rolled in yet. Arsenal appear to only serious suitors right now and if that continues to be the case in January, then Arsenal could take advantage of Lyon’s poor financial situation in order to capture an extremely talented young player.
