Each week I’ll be bringing you Arsenal Tweets of the Week. This is a roundup from a small selection of Arsenal-related tweets as chosen by me.
Goodness! Almost a month has passed since Arsenal played New York Red Bulls for the New York Cup at Red Bull Arena. How time flies. We all know this game was as much about Thierry Henry as playing a pre-season international friendly. I think we can say with certainty the main reason the majority Arsenal fans travelled to the game, whether internationally or nationally, was due to Henry. Now Adidas, in association with Major League Soccer, have put together a video celebrating “Thierry Henry | Legend” using footage from that time in New York City. If you watch very carefully, you may even spot me singing outside The Winslow, located on 14th Street, about a minute into the video. The Arsenal NYC Supporter Club’s hashtag #14thStIsRed was certainly true that particular weekend.

After only managing to fill half of their allocated seats at Wembley Stadium, Manchester City have decided to cut the cost of a ticket to their away game against Arsenal on Saturday 13 September. It would appear they’re worried that their fans will boycott the game, as they did in January 2013, over the cost of tickets. Don’t they realise that this is London and not Manchester? But more to the point this is The Emirates Stadium, the home of football!

Round One of the Champions League qualification against Beşiktaş is done and dusted with Round Two set for the return leg at The Emirates this coming Wednesday. It would have been great to be ahead of the game with a goal at this stage. It was a hard-fought game at Atatürk Olympic Stadium; a lot of shirt-tugging which culminated in Ramsey seeing his second yellow card of the game, so equally I’m pleased we didn’t concede. I was sorry to see Rambo leave the pitch knowing he’ll have to sit out it out. However, the following morning I came across this Tweet that literally had me spitting my coffee out with laughter! Poor Olivier Giroud – he did have a pretty awful game. It’s good to know there are plenty of bright sparks capable of putting a smile back on your face – this time in the form of a heat map. Laugh away, laugh away …

“The Germans” have been conspicuous in their absence since the start of the season. However, it would seem that one German in particular, Lukas Podolski, is more inconspicuous! Although we’ve seen him in official photos from the Arsenal training sessions he’s not travelled to Goodison Park for the Everton match. Speculation regarding Poldolsi’s future with the Gunners, started last season when it was touted that he was unhappy with being left on the bench in key games. Now it would appear there is more supposition with transfers rumours. Independently of this, and to start a brand new rumour in a different vein, I blame my daughter for having her Puma replica shirt personalised and emblazoned with “POLDI”. As for myself, I’m just grateful that I didn’t sign the death knell for Mikel Arteta with mine, although I’m pretty certain there are a few Arsenal fans out there who wished I had.

I decided to dispense with the usual official match report from Arsenal this week! Sometimes I feel as though it’s the same old, same old; excuses in the form of platitudes. I’m not going to pass any comment on Arsenal’s performance against The Toffees but I particularly liked the sentiment of how criticism can easily turn into hatred/abuse and just how fine a line there is between the two. It would seem that Arsenal have a way to go as far as the team melding. Let’s hope it happens soon.
