By all accounts it was a disastrous start to Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League campaign. Apparently Dinamo Zagreb have never beaten an English team before. Says it all really doesn’t it?
And there were we, despite the latest lack of signings in the last transfer window, feeling confident after our pre-season performances. The one thing you can say about Chelsea is that up until tonight at least they’ve remained consistent with their pre-season form. Thankfully I was otherwise engaged and didn’t see the match but by all accounts it brings to mind similar Arsenal defeats in the Champions League such as Monaco and Anderlecht (no offence to either of these teams).
Final score; Zagreb 2 – Arsenal 1. We got exactly what we deserved…. nothing! Arsene’s gamble to rest players for Chelsea backfired!

Another disastrous European performance to add to the arsenal portfolio

Seriously @Arsenal What an utter disaster. Giroud sent off. A goal needlessly conceded. Just ridiculous. #DZGARS

We came out of this game with nothing:

But here’s hope from the other side of the pond:
I can’t believe I’m throwing out a defensive stat, but Arsenal lost their group stage opener last year, too.

If you too missed the game and you’re a glutton for punishment you can read all about it here:
