After what has felt like a lifetime, Arsenal have completed the signing of Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette for a club record fee of £52million.
The 26-year-old has been a long-term target of Arsene Wenger and after Lyon played hard-ball for a number of years, the boss has finally got his main man.
Lacazette joins the Gunners on a five-year deal after completing a medical and personal negotiations at Arsenal’s training complex, London Colney, on Tuesday.
The Frenchman is a quick and agile striker who’s known for hitting the net when it matters in Ligue 1 following three consecutive years of scoring 20+ goals.
Despite being lower in the ranks in the French national side to fellow Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud, it appears Wenger wanted Lacazette for his versatility and speed.
It wasn’t easy getting his signature either, with a move to Atletico Madrid appearing likely before their transfer ban appeal was upheld, meaning Lacazette wanted a new club.
And although Arsenal dropped out of the Champions League and were on the brink of losing Alexis and Ozil, many reports suggest Lacazette chose Arsenal because of the project Wenger proposed to him.
Having already signed two players this window, Wenger is now on the lookout for more attacking reinforcements with Kylian Mbappe and Thomas Lemar looking like more realistic options with every day that goes by.
Wenger has also earmarked Riyad Mahrez as a back-up option if Monaco refuse to sell their two star players this summer – so watch this space guys!
