Mesut Ozil is set to sign a new contract worth around £140,000 per week at Arsenal. That figure is thought to be a slight increase on his current deal.
Ozil, 27 has been in fantastic form this season, managing 10 assists in the Premier League so far. If he manages another 10, he will surpass Thierry Henry’s record of 20 in one campaign – that is looking extremely likely.
The German currently has two-and-a-half years left on his deal but Arsenal want to secure him until at least 2019 with a new contract. Reports now suggest that Ozil may have already signed the deal, with an official announcement from Arsenal the only thing missing.
Let’s hope our orchestrator can stay fit. If the German avoids injury he has every chance of being crowned the Premier League player of the year and breaking records. In a time where half of our midfield are missing, we cannot afford the nucleus of our attack to be taken out.
Alexis Sanchez could follow in Ozil’s footsteps, with the latest murmurs from the club suggesting that he too is set to sign an extension. If Arsenal can tie down two world class players to new contracts, it shows the club is continuing to head in the right direction.
The duo would follow the likes of Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla in committing their long term future to the club.
