Arsenal fans will be very happy with the news that Mathieu Flamini is set to join Galatasaray after the Turkish club agreed a deal with Arsenal.
I can’t imagine Arsenal have asked for a lot (if anything) in terms of a transfer fee: A deal for Flamini should be completed within 48 hours after he completes a medical.
Arsenal will be happy to get rid of Flamini’s reported £60,000 per week wages, with his presence in the squad apparently being a factor in not moving for a midfielder already.
We told you two days ago that talks were scheduled between the two clubs, and it looks like those talks saw a quick agreement reached. The Turkish club are looking to replace Felipe Melo who left for Brazil.
The news will spark rumours of a pending midfield arrival at the club, with the injury prone Mikel Arteta now the only natural back up to Francis Coquelin in that holding midfield role.
Coquelin’s performances in that role last season showed fans how important it is to have a player with a natural defensive instinct is in that position.
With Morgan Schneiderlin moving to Manchester United, it’s anyone’s guess who Arsenal may now try and bring in. The likes of Lars Bender have been linked, but the rumours as a whole have died down on the midfield front since Arteta extended his contract. The news that Flamini is set to leave will surely add sparks to the transfer cannon.
