Arsenal fans have been handed an update on the possibility of Jamie Vardy signing, after the players boss confirmed he still hasn’t made a decision.
The Gunners have been waiting patiently on whether or not the 29-year-old will make the switch to North London, despite the deal looking all but completed earlier this month.
According to sources close to the club, a medical was booked for the striker and all of the formalities were set to be signed ahead of this summer’s Euro’s.
However, in a last-minute change of heart Vardy decided to keep the fans, media and most importantly Arsene Wenger waiting to be sure of his thoughts with advice from his England teammates.
Supporters have since been itching to find any updates on whether or not the forward has made up his mind, and despite the former Fleetwood Town man staying silent, his boss has had to speak out.
Talking to Sky Sport Italia earlier in the week, Claudio Ranieri admitted the counter-offer, believed to be £90,000 a week from the Premier League champions, has given Vardy food for thought.
We want to keep him, Arsenal have said that they are willing to pay the clause but he hasn’t accepted yet. It’s up to the player to say yes or no.
I hope I can keep all of my champions and add those players we are looking for to strengthen the squad.
An extremely difficult season is awaiting us because what we have achieved cannot be repeated, I am curious to see what will happen.
The fan favourite has a real challenge to keep hold of his players going in to the 2016/17 campaign, with N’golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez both rumoured to be exiting the King Power.
At the moment it seems like Vardy’s decision comes down to him not wanting to start a Leicester exodus, but at the same time he won’t want to miss out on this chance.
Alan Smith stated earlier in the week that he can’t understand what has taken the striker so long to make the move, and having the deal hanging over his head in France will definitely effect his performance.
Vardy was an unused substitute during England’s 1-1 draw with Russia at the weekend where Arsene Wenger went to watch in hope of seeing his main summer target.
With the championships over by July 10th, Vardy is now expected to confirm his future as soon as England are finished with the tournament.
