Arsenal are in talks to sign Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote according to the player himself, according to Metro. The player is looking to leave the club in January and has confirmed Arsenal have been in contact.
The midfielder is unsettled at Newcastle, the 28-year-old reportedly told reporters:
‘I want to leave Newcastle – I need to look for a new challenge, I will focus on the upcoming games but let’s see what happens.
‘It’s true there’s been contact for me from Arsenal. A club in Russia is also keen – but I prefer to stay in England.’
Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Abou Diaby’s contracts are set to expire at the end of the season. It seems
I personally think we should aim higher than Tiote. If he is available in January and Arsenal are still struggling to sign a defensive midfielder, you could see why Arsene Wenger might be interested.
The likes of William Carvalho and Sami Khedira could be available in January. I feel the former has greater potential than Tiote and the latter is a similar age, but a much better player. Khedira is a risk, due to his injury problems but I still think he is a better option than the Ivorian.
