Arsene Wenger has revealed he nearly signed Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman in 2014. That news will leave Arsenal fans frustrated, but also happy with Wenger’s desire in the market, it’s his execution which may worry.
Wenger revealed the news on French TV station beIN Sports: “We tried to sign Kingsley Coman in the summer of 2014.. The transfer was almost completed, but he preferred to sign with Juventus and the matter was therefore not completed”
Wenger didn’t go into any more detail, but it looks like it was as simple as that; Juventus convinced him, Arsenal did not.
Of course since then, Coman helped Juventus to a Serie A title and a Champions League final, but has now moved on to Bayern Munich in an oddly collated loan deal. Bayern paid €7million to loan the winger for two seasons and can pay a further €21million if they choose to make the deal permanent – that seems inevitable.
Arsenal do have quality options on the wings, but certainly this season we could have done with another. Coman would have more than likely become a regular in our team already, even at 19.
Under the guidance of French mentor and colleague Arsene Wenger, we could have had some player on our hands in Coman.
