With just four games left to play, we’re not any closer to finding out Arsene Wenger’s future than back on the opening day of the season.
The Gunners boss has repeatedly come under fire from the fans, pundits and fellow managers following another disappointing campaign across all competitions.
Crashing out of the Champions League with a 10-2 aggregate score, coupled with Spurs finishing above us and dreadful away form has left many doubting Wenger’s ability.
However, as we now know that an announcement will be made a few weeks after the FA Cup final, ESPN’s Senior journalist has handed Arsenal fans the update they were looking for.
According to Gabriele Marcotti, Wenger is more likely to leave the club in the summer if he finishes on a high, whether that be in the Premier League or FA Cup.
It’s believed that the 67-year-old wants to go out on a high from the club he’s managed for over 20 years, with the board agreeing that it’s a fitting farewell.
All of that is easily said and not done though, with Arsenal needing Liverpool or Man City to slip up in their final games over the next week or so.
As well as that, Arsenal need to overcome a trip to Stoke and pick up six points at home to Everton and Sunderland – all without picking up any injuries.
Things don’t get much easier when looking at the FA Cup, with the likelihood of Wenger beating in-form league leaders Chelsea at Wembley looking minimal.
However, what Marcotti’s comments do suggest is that Wenger is starting to think about what’s best for the club, rather than attempt to save his ego.
If Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions League, the board will justify him staying by suggesting there’s nobody that knows the club better that can turn things around.
