Arsenal Will Be The End Of Us All: Tweets of the Week

Each week I’ll be bringing you Arsenal Tweets of the Week. This is a roundup from a small selection of Arsenal-related tweets as chosen by me.

The Community Shield was a great start to the season, albeit pre-season. It very much seemed to me as if Manchester City wondered why they’d bothered turning up at all – for all the effect they had on the game they may as well have stayed in the dressing room, particularly in the first half. The Arsenal fans were certainly the most vociferous of the two teams, even though the sparsely populated Man City half of Wembley spoke volumes in itself. Many would argue that Man City didn’t field a first XI team. Neither did the Gunners; we did, after all, have the German contingent missing from our front line. A friend, who also happens to be a Spurs fan, said “The Community Shield is a waste of time.” Well it would be if you didn’t end up with in your trophy cabinet for the 13th time wouldn’t it? Not so unlucky for some.

No doubt we can all relate to this fan’s view of the forthcoming season. OK who’s in for the usual roller coaster ride?

So, the Crystal Palace match was our first win in an opening game for 5 years? Isn’t it good to know that we can break with tradition? Fingers crossed that means we’ll win the league this year; or at least finish in a higher position than our traditional fourth!

Here’s the official match report of Arsenal’s 2-1 win against Crystal Palace. It was always going to be a tough one even though Crystal Palace lost their manager just two days before the game; as backed up by the statistic above. Talking of statistics it could be a lot worse. Manchester United lost at home in their opening game for the first time in 42 years – something to boost the spirit hey? Going behind in the first half is sometimes hard to come back from. Thanks to Laurent Koscielny, who has scored more goals for Arsenal than any other defender in our history (thank goodness the Achilles injury wasn’t as bad as originally touted) and Aaron Ramsey who then put us ahead in the “90th” minute. Rambo to the rescue yet again.

And finally, I wonder if we can get this trending on Twitter the next time our number 28 sits it out on the bench for the whole 90 minutes? Apart from the Saturday Emirates Cup game and a last-minute substitution in the Community Shield we’ve not really seen what Joel Campbell may be capable of doing for Arsenal as yet, although we all saw his capabilities while playing for Costa Rica in the World Cup 2014. Let’s give the lad a proper chance which will also give us an opportunity to find out too!
