Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is being reported as a prime summer target for the Gunners league rivals Manchester City, according to the Sunday Times.
The England international is regarded as one of English football’s brightest prospects but is not guaranteed first-team football at the Emirates, due to competition with the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin and Mikel Arteta.
That could play into the hands of the Citizens, who are looking at the 23-year-old to increase their homegrown contingent at the Etihad and lower their average squad age- which currently stands at the late 20’s and early 30’s.
Whether Arsenal would contemplate selling the star, who came through the club’s academy, remains to be seen.
Wilshere is a fan favourite at Arsenal but fans are growing frustrated with his injury record and loss of form this season- which may suggest many fans would be open to letting the player leave North London.
The £35m fee received would give Arsene Wenger some spending money to purchase a more valuable midfielder, who thrives in a deeper role, but selling Wilshere would be seen as a major mistake as the player shows great promise and a bright future.
Wilshere is also Arsenal through-and-through and has been touted by some as a future captain, whilst he became a cult-hero at the club following his anti-Tottenham chants in the Gunners FA Cup celebrations last year.
