Arsenal have made a formal bid of around £7million for Brazilian defender Caio, according to the Metro.
Caio, 20, has impressed recently at the Toulon tournament and the Metro says Arsenal are heavily interested in the player, and even suggest a formal bid has been lodged, their report states: ‘Arsenal have made an offer for Sao Paulo’s highly-rated Brazilian defender Rodrigo Caio.’
Reportedly Arsenal scout Steve Rowley has held talks with the players agent, and he could join the Gunners next season – but a work permit could be an issue.
The Gunners only have three senior centre back options since Sagna and Djourou’s departures, and there is even doubt over Vermaelen’s future with reports recently linking him to Manchester United.
Even if Vermaelen stays put, Arsene will be keen to add a youthful addition to his defensive line, and Caio has the versatility and technical ability to also play in midfield.
