Why Arsenal Still Need To Sign A Striker

Morning all, so, we’ve been extravagantly linked to a prolific goal scorer, dribbler of the ball and assist maker whose name goes by a certain Alexis Sanchez. Now, if you’ve been living in the past century, you wouldn’t know this news but I assume most of us definitely do it by now; ie:- Alexis Sanchez of FC Barcelona is closing in on a move to Arsenal FC. To back this little piece of information, we have the Guardian, BBC, Sky Sports, Catalan Radio, Mundo Deportivo, AS, L’Equipe, Sport and various Chilean Journalists reporting the same. BUT –there’s always a but- we face tight competition from the Italian giants, Juventus. Anyway, by the looks of things, it certainly looks like we have gotten our man. At least, I hope! (It’s done but hey, let’s play safe for now)

Now, it’s been no secret that, we’ve been on the look for a striker to back our big man, OG. Does this mean that our new striker is Alexis!? No, no I don’t think so..wait, does this REALLY MEAN our second striker which we’ve all been eagerly waiting for is Alexis Sanchez? I hope not. Alexis Sanchez gained huge popularity at Udinese where he had been playing as a second striker, partnering Antonio Di Natale. And, when he moved on to Messi-centric Barcelona, he was deployed on the wings and was benched most of the time in the former part of his career. But, he came to serious form last season bagging plenty goals and assists. After watching him play for the national team, it would be more than safe to conclude that Sanchez’s best position is the secondary striker. At Arsenal, he would most certainly be a secondary striker to OG. In theory, this sounds good. But, hey, where’s our back up striker to OG?!

With a holding midfielder and a goalkeeper, it is necessary for us to go hunt in the market and get our back up striker. People say, Joel Campbell is our man but he is an untested product. He is young. He needs time. You can’t expect wonders from him in the first season. There are the obvious names of Loic Remy, Wilfried Bony, Romelu Lukaku etc. that come to mind and for me personally, I would go for Loic Remy. He comes on the cheap, proven PL goalscorer, quality player. But, if you didn’t know, Tony Fernandes (Owner of QPR) just posted a photo of Remy and captioned it as “World class player at QPR”..wonder what the means.
