Arsenal Could Sign Reus AND Kheidra In January For Just £20m

Arsenal are considering moves for Sami Khedira and Marco Reus in January, both of which could be signed for just £20million, according to the press.

The transfer window is over for now, but that won’t stop the rumours flowing. The Gunners held a well publicised interest in Sami Khedira this summer, but it seemed wage demands put any deal in jeopardy. However the Madrid man’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and reports suggest Arsenal will try and get him to sign a pre-contract, for nothing, in January.

Because he costs nothing this would seem like a very good deal, and it would be. However it must be remembered that the main reason Arsenal didn’t sign him this summer were his high wage demands. With Khedira being available for no transfer fee, his wage demands are likely to increase, considering the amount of offers he will have on the table – he’ll also want a large signing on fee. This means that the total package for Khedira probably won’t be any cheaper than if we had signed him this summer.

Now with Reus I find it more believable. The German seems to have a soft spot for Arsenal and I don’t think he’d hesitate about a move to the capital. With his contract having a £30million release in it from next summer, and with Reus having no plans to get it removed, many clubs will be considering a move. £30million is not much for a player of his calibre and versatility. The Gunners could tempt Dortmund with a £20million bid in January, say the Mail. Dortmund will be desperate not to sell Reus to Bayern Munich, who it seems he may be holding out for a move for. If the German club keep hold of Reus until the summer, they will be powerless as to which club he joins. It does make sense that they’d be tempted to sell to Arsenal.

It’s the figure which I don’t believe. There will be plenty of clubs willing to test Dortmund with £35million or even £40million in January. He’d still be worth it, and we should still make our move.
