Arsenal are looking extremely light in attack, but they look to have been boosted by a couple of deals the club look set to imminently announce.
Eddie Nketiah was named as a player whose contract was set to end on the official Arsenal website on Friday, but they did add that talks were ongoing. Now, Eddie is understood to be signing a new contract still and it will be announced in the coming days, that is according to an exclusive from Ryan Taylor.
Arsenal also appear to have secured their first signing of the summer, in the shape of Marquinhos. The teenage winger joins from Sao Paulo for a fee of just 3.5million euros, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Marquinhos has only just turned 18 and so is unlikely to feature much in the first team next season, though we said the same about Gabriel Martinelli when he arrived. He is left footed and predominantly plays from the right wing, with the ability to also play from the left or behind the striker. Transfermarkt value him at £6.3million, so Arsenal securing him at £3million appears a decent deal and extremely low risk.
This duo of signings may not completely excite the Arsenal fans, but they are a couple of signings that help to add a bit of depth to attacking areas that are currently extremely depleted.
Nketiah is still young, having only turned 23 last month. His form at the end of the season showed promise and the ability to be able to lead the Arsenal line well on occasions or certainly give the team a sound option from the bench.
With European football back at Arsenal next season and five subs coming back to the Premier League, depth will be more important than ever. Whilst fans will rightfully expect at least one major new signing in attack, this is a decent start.
In their search for a new major signing up top, Gabriel Jesus remains Arsenal’s first choice. The club are reportedly growing confident of securing his signature. Would Jesus be a good signing? Watch our transfer scouting video on him below.
