Do Arsenal Really Need Cesc Fabregas?

For the past few weeks now speculation about Cesc Fabregas’s future has been flying around and he has been linked with a bundle of different premier league clubs including are London rivals Chelsea.

Many newspapers have reported that Barcelona will let the Spanish midfielder leave for around £30 million pounds as that is the amount they paid us for him back in 2011, due to some poor performances from the 27-year-old and also the fact that he cannot break into the side with Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets, to name a few, who have been the key to Barcelona’s success in the last 6 years, Barcelona have grown ever frustrated with the Spaniard and are looking to sell immediately to build a new squad with their new manager Luis Enrique. Many fans have been saying that they would have Fabregas back at the Emirates in a heartbeat as he would add that extra quality, but didn’t we already add that quality in the last summer transfer window by breaking our transfer record and spending £42.5 million pounds on Mesut Ozil. We may all want Fabregas back at Arsenal but do we really need Fabregas back?

It’s clear to see that Mesut Ozil is lacking a lot of confidence at the moment and at times last season was struggling mentally and physically to cope with the fast pace and physicality of the Premier league. In my opinion Mesut Ozil will become one of the best attacking midfielders in world football but all he needs is time as he is still only 25 years old. So by buying Fabregas, who plays in a very similar position to Ozil, won’t do his confidence any good at all. Many criticized Ozil’s performances throughout the season, but I believe that he was an unsung hero in many ways and a lot of his work had gone unnoticed. It seemed to me whenever Ozil played with our player of the season Aaron Ramsey he seemed to bring the best out of the Welsh international. And although many say he had a poor season he still managed to have the best chance created per minute ratio in the Premier league. If we sign Cesc it will obviously add to our quality that we already possess but I just can’t think of a way or a formation of being able to fit both him and Mesut Ozil in the same team and players of their quality cannot be rotated throughout the season. However reports today from the Spanish newspaper Marca, suggest that Cesc has agreed a contract with Chelsea and is very close to signing for an approximate £33 million.

With all the focus on Cesc and he’s suppose return to the Premier league, everyone has seemed to have forgotten about the fact that we are in desperate need of a potent striker. Arsenal managed to score 68 goals in total in the 2013/2014 premier league but compared to the top 2 who managed to conjure up 203 goals between them, are goal tally looks very average. For me, you can find a quality striker that can still improve for around £8 million; Loic Remy has been heavily linked with us as he is looking to escape from his current club QPR who have just been promoted from the Championship and after watching a France friendly international in the week with Remy and Giroud linking up wonderfully, signing the striker would also help last season’s top scorer Oliver Giroud, who has come under a lot of scrutiny.

Loic Remy has a very impressive goal record of 14 goals in 24 premier league appearances and to add a proven goal scorer at Champions league level would be a big boost for us next season as we look to push on from our FA cup success. This transfer looks very realistic as QPR manager, Harry Redknapp was speaking about the French striker “I don’t see (Loic) Remy wanting to come back and play. He’s talking about playing Champions League somewhere.” And of course we can give him Champions league football and maybe even another trophy success.

With the French striker coming fairly cheap, that allows us to spend are supposed ‘£100 million’ on other missing accessories we need to become a big force in Europe again. Goal.com understands that we have agreed a £7 million pound deal for Serge Aurier, the Toulouse right back. The news has come through after earlier in the week Bacary Sagna came out and said he doesn’t see his future with Arsenal and is expected to leave the club after being with us for 7 years. Many fans wouldn’t have heard of Serge Aurier but I can tell you he is a very promising 21-year-old and is a player to look out for at the world cup with Ivory Coast.

So do we really need Fabregas? In my opinion we have at least 4 players that can play is position to an excellent standard in Wilshere, Ramsey, Cazorla and of course Mesut Ozil.
