Arsenal are looking increasingly likely to capture the signing of Michael Carrick this summer in a bid to replace some of their current midfield stars.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Manchester United midfielder on several occasions over the years, and now Arsene Wenger is ready to wrap up the deal.
That now makes it four official attempts to sign the English international, who has also had spells at London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.
Standing with a wealth of top level experience at 34 years of age, Carrick would provide an excellent replacement as the Gunners head into an incredibly busy transfer window.
Wenger’s overhaul of his midfield will include getting shot of Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Thomas Rosicky, three players who have provided advice on and off the pitch.
And to ensure Wenger doesn’t lose any of that priceless experience, a signing like Michael Carrick will provide his side with another commanding voice in the changing room.
According to several media reports, the likes of Victor Wanyama and Rabiot remain top targets this Summer, but the availability of Carrick would be too good to miss.
The midfielder has won almost every trophy during his 17 years in professional football, and will almost certainly be out of contract at the end of the season.
United boss Louis Van Gaal has shown evidence he has no time for the heritage of the club, and it’ll mean nothing to him seeing Carrick hang up the Red Devils shirt.
One thing that is for certain however is that the midfielder will have a list of options when it comes to his next club, with Premier League and MLS clubs keeping tabs.
