Arsenal look set to test West Ham’s resolve with a £10million bid for 17-year-old Reece Oxford. The central defender, who can also play in holding midfield impressed Arsene Wenger when the sides met in August.
Arsenal scouts have watched Oxford, predominantly in youth fixtures since that game in August – and they’ve been impressed.
Oxford can play in midfield or central defence and this versatility would certainly be attractive for Arsenal, who could benefit with an extra body in both of those areas, especially with Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini leaving this summer.
The Sun says Arsenal are readying a £10million bid, whilst other outlets have repeatedly listed the Gunners are interested.
Oxford is only 17, but has shown a lot of potential and captains the West Ham under 21 side. The Hammers will not want to sell but Arsenal will hope a £10million bid is enough to tempt them. The Gunners are willing to invest in young English potential, as they showed with the £14million signing of Calum Chambers.
Arsenal are turning their attentions to young reinforcements currently, with Leicester’s Ben Chilwell also high on the wanted list for Wenger.
Manchester City are also reportedly monitoring Oxford, and this interest may accelerate The Gunners plans.
