Arsenal need signings as Arteta confirms another attacker is ‘out for a few weeks’

Arsenal’s squad depth is set to be tested further as Mikel Arteta confirmed in his press conference that promising young talent Ethan Nwaneri is sidelined with a muscular injury.

After scoring the opener against Brighton, the teenager, who had been filling in for Bukayo Saka on the right, had to be substituted.

“Unfortunately, he has picked up an injury and is going to be out for a few weeks,” Arteta stated, adding another layer of concern for a side already contending with a small squad and packed January fixture list.

Nwaneri, who has made a significant impression despite his young age, had been tipped for greater involvement this month as Arsenal navigates a congested schedule across multiple competitions. His absence adds to the growing pressure on the squad and highlights the importance of depth, particularly in attacking areas. Raheem Sterling, who was brought in as a back up for Saka, is also injured.

The timing of these injuries couldn’t be worse for Arsenal, who face a relentless run of games in January. With Saka already sidelined, Nwaneri’s injury further depletes Arteta’s attacking options, leaving the squad vulnerable to fatigue and a lack of rotation. Arsenal are firmly in the mix for domestic and European honours this season, but their squad is now at risk of being stretched to breaking point.

The situation underscores the urgent need for Arsenal to act swiftly in the transfer market. January often presents opportunities for savvy clubs to strengthen, and the potential availability of players like Raphinha and Olmo due to Barcelona’s financial troubles could provide the ideal solution.

Both players offer versatility and attacking quality, with Raphinha capable of operating on either flank or as a central striker, and Olmo bringing creative midfield depth and the ability to play as a false nine.

There’s also potentially movement in Turin, with Juventus said to be open to selling long-term Arsenal target Dusan Vlahovic this month.

Arsenal’s ambitions this season hinge on their ability to maintain consistency in the face of adversity. With Saka and Nwaneri unavailable for the foreseeable future, bolstering the squad has become a necessity rather than a luxury. Swift action in the transfer market could not only address the immediate challenges posed by these injuries but also set Arsenal up for a sustained push for silverware in the months ahead.

The coming weeks could prove pivotal in shaping their season.
