The Daily Star have this morning claimed an ‘EXCLUSIVE’ on Wayne Rooney joining Arsenal. Without saying anything definitive on a move or anything they couldn’t later track back on – it is their main back-page headline. It reads ‘Arsenal have put together a package they hope can convince Wayne Rooney to join them from Manchester United.’ This suggests that Arsenal have made an offer to both club and player for the services of the 27 year-old forward.
We’ve not heard anything of the sort, but the rumours won’t go away. Gonzalo Higuain is however closing in on a £22million move to the Emirates with a deal possibly announced as early as tomorrow, but expected to be dragged on until next week. It seems Arsene’s long-term admiration of the striker could force his hand. Back in April Arsene Wenger told Al Jazeera TV.
“Do I find Rooney interesting? Who wouldn’t be interested by him, nobody would turn him down”
The newspaper claims that Arsenal would like to partner £22million pending signing Gonzalo Higuain and Rooney in a dream-team like partnership. It’s a partnership that would cost around £50million, but one that would be capable of helping the Gunners compete for the league once again. It is thought Arsenal would offer Rooney a deal worth £175,000 per-week with the security of a 5 year-deal to compensate the drop in wages he would have to take. Arsenal fans will hope the club confirm at least one of them sooner rather than later!
