3. John Ruddy
Arsenal have now been linked with a £6million bid for Norwich City keeper John Ruddy according to the Daily Mail. The English keeper was unlucky to miss out on the Three Lions World Cup squad and also saw his team relegated. It wasn’t a nice last few weeks of the season for Ruddy, but he is a very good goalkeeper. At 27, and just £6million, Ruddy represents the best value for money out of all the options. He is also homegrown which is always a bonus considering the homegrown quota introduced. I think this is probably the most realistic and best option for Arsenal replacing Fabianski, considering all the factors.
Arsenal need at least one new keeper this summer with Fabianski and Viviano leaving the club. I’ve said it before that Marshall would be my favourite signing for this position. He is a quality keeper and he and Szczesny were probably the best keepers in the league last season. Similarly to Begovic however, I don’t see him wanting to play second fiddle to Szczesny and this could be a sticking point. It’d be hard for him to turn down Arsenal though, surely? Also Marshall’s cost looks to be too high so if that cannot be negotiated down then Ruddy would be my choice.Â
