Arsenal Loanee Hints At Permanent Exit From The Gunners After Midfield Struggles

It may have seemed like a successful summer window for the Gunners in the end, but some aren’t so happy with how their future panned out.

Following his season-long loan move to Sporting Lisbon, Joel Campbell has finally spoken about the way he was treated at the Gunners.

Despite showing so much promise, things haven’t panned out for the Costa Rican ever since that fantastic performance he put in for his country at the 2014 World Cup.

He was handed a chance to establish a regular spot in the first-team after Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain missed out through injury or poor form.

Many of us thought Campbell coped with the pressure immensely, but Wenger obviously didn’t see things as we did and things quickly took to a downward trend.

At just 19 years old, Alex Iwobi came out higher in the pecking order and as soon as Walcott or The Ox were back to fitness Campbell was shoved to the bottom of the pile.

And after heading out on his fifth loan spell whilst being a Gunner, the 24-year-old has been speaking to Portuguese publication, A Bola, which the Daily Mail have quoted:

I feel good (at Sporting Lisbon), this is a new experience.

I think I deserved to play more after what I did last year, but now this is a new stage.

I want to continue to develop. Sporting are a good opportunity for me and a great team. I am happy with the decision I made.

It wouldn’t come as a surprise if Campbell packed his bags for good after the way he’s been treated, which will be a disappointment to so many of the fans.

What we have to remember is he’s still the same age as Jack Wilshere and has plenty to offer in the near future, and ultimately it will come down to how the season pans out.

If Walcott has a repeat of last season then you’d have to expect him to be out of chances, but if this really is Wenger’s last season then who knows what to expect next year!
