Arsenal have a pretty hefty to-do list to get through this summer and are now preparing to tick off on of their biggest priorities.
According to an update from Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners are in talks with Bukayo Saka and his agent to reach a full agreement on a new long-term contract.
Romano also confirmed that Saka is happy with the project at Arsenal, owing a lot to the club and manager that have showed so much trust and faith since his first-team debut in 2019.
Saka’s current contract runs until 2024 and it’s believed that if he fails to sign a new deal, Arsenal would still be reluctant to sell their ‘starboy’ despite the sizeable feed he could bring in.
Manchester City have already been rumoured to be keeping an eye on Saka’s situation, having recently lost Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling.
But despite interest from Pep Guardiola’s side, Arsenal seem confident on tying up a new deal for a forward player that played the third most amount of minutes last season, behind only Aaron Ramsdale and Gabriel Magalhaes.
Saka’s been at Arsenal since the age of seven and having worked his way through the Hale End Academy, has only ever had one club shirt resting on his shoulders.
No loan spells, no temptation to join any other club and at just 20 years of age he still has a huge career ahead of him and Arsenal are very well aware of that.
Mikel Arteta wants to build a team around these youngsters, with Arsenal boasting the youngest average age side throughout the entirety of the 2021/22 campaign.
Landing the signature of Saka would say a lot about the direction the club is going in and how much we’ve managed to change since recent seasons of losing high profile players for next to nothing.
