Arsenal’s season is now over, in superb fashion after we retained the FA Cup with one of the best displays we’ve shown in a long while. That gives us great confidence heading into the summer, where we can lure top players with trophy promises and Champions League football.
Here’s the round-up of all the latest news!
Real Madrid Eye Koscielny, Benzema Swap Possible (Mirror)
Reports cited in today’s Daily Mirror suggest that Real Madrid want to bolster their defence with the addition of Laurent Koscielny. The French international features on incoming manager Rafael Benitez’ transfer wish-list and reports suggest Arsene Wenger could use this as leverage for a bid for Karim Benzema.
Whilst it makes sense considering Koscileny’s sheer talent, I can’t see Arsenal selling. Plus the fact Real Madrid have Sergio Ramos and Pepe, the latter of whom has signed a new deal, and youngster Raphael Varane- who they won’t want to part with.
Wenger Plays Down Arturo Vidal Links (Evening Standard)
Arsene Wenger has handed a shattering blow to Arsenal fans, by rubbishing reports linking his side with a move for Juventus ace Arturo Vidal. When questioned over the weekend regarding the Chilean, Wenger responded by stating:
“We have good midfielders and at the moment we are not looking at Arturo Vidal.”
Whilst this may make some fans down heartened, let’s not forget that Wenger is probably the most secretive person in the world regarding transfers. Plus, the ‘at the moment’ comment leaves the door open for later in the future. Time to get agent Sanchez pulling strings during the Copa America!
Arsenal Hold Talks With Milner (Manchester Evening News)
Arsenal are genuinely interested in the signature of Manchester City midfielder James Milner, who is out of contract this summer, and have already held talks with the England international, according to reports.
The Gunners will have to wait on their fate until after the upcoming England fixtures, where Milner will reportedly choose between North London and Merseyside, where Liverpool are interested in his signature as a potential replacement for Steven Gerrard.
Manchester United Lead Chase For Schneiderlin (Guardian)
Arsenal have fallen behind in the race for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, according to reports, with Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United now leading the chase for the French international. Schneiderlin will leave this summer for a Champions League club, a move which is has confirmed himself.
Whilst Arsenal were believed to be favourites, it appears that their interest has cooled- which makes sense given the links regarding Arturo Vidal and James Milner, both of whom I imagine are preferred additions over Schneiderlin.
Interestingly, the reported price for Arturo Vidal is only slightly higher than Schneiderlin- which means a decision is easy. Champions League finalist than you very much.
