Arsenal’s transfer search is said to be in full swing with just three Premier League games remaining and stories today mention new targets. So let’s get dug in and have our say on the latest gossip!
Arsenal Chase Marseille’s Andre Ayew (Star)
Whilst the Daily Star is always an outlet you should take with a hefty, almost unhealthy, large pinch of salt, the interesting story here isn’t actually the speculation- but instead the comments directly from the Marseille president.
Whilst he doesn’t mention Arsenal directly, Ayew is a player that the Gunners have been linked to in the past. Plus, player based in French league, plus quite talented, equals Arsenal interest. It’s the way the world works.
Ayew is said to be reluctant to pen a new deal, which expires next summer, and Marseille cant afford the wages that would rival those interested parties in the Premier League. Manchester United and Liverpool are also said to be interested.
Gunners Eye Schmeichel As Cech Alternative (Telegraph)
As we all expected, the situation regarding Petr Cech has become rather complicated. Supposedly, Cech wants to remain in the Premier League and London. Jose Mourinho has spoken out, stating he wants the player to be sold abroad or remain at Chelsea. Now, Roman Abramovich is said to have the final say.
I’m going to go out on a limb and state that Mr Russian Moneybags won’t sell to us, and risk seeing us beat him in the Premier League next season, unless we offer an arm, a leg and a huge oil rig somewhere in the Pacific.
That’s led to Arsenal pursuing other targets- and whilst fans may get ahead of themselves dreaming of Iker Caillas, Diego Alves, Sirigu and more, I’ll pop your balloon right here. It’s actually Kasper Schmeichel, of Leicester City no less.
A talented keeper undeniably but I personally don’t feel he’s up to Arsenal standards. He’s definitely not the first-team safe hands that can carry us towards a league title, thats for sure. However, he is probably the most Arsenal signing we could make.
Arsenal’s Vermaelen Bonus (Mirror)
What’s better than selling our captain to Barcelona? Not missing him throughout the season and him not making his debut, despite it being May of the following year. It’s fair to say Arsenal cashed in on Thomas Vermaelen at the right time.
However with Barcelona heading to the Champions League final, it could get even better. The Gunners will get an additional £3m if the Catalan outfit win the final against Juventus next month- and it makes no difference that the Belgian is yet to play a single second with the Spanish giants.
Don’t spend it all at once Arsene!
Rosicky Ready To Leave Arsenal (Sun)
Long-serving midfielder Tomas Rosicky is set to leave Arsenal at the end of the season on a free transfer, as the 34-year-old can’t be guaranteed first-team football at the Emirates. Whilst the Gunners have offered a new deal, it appears it will be turned down.
Losing Rosicky is a blow to any side, as he is extremely talented, and my one wish is that we could use the fountains of lazarus to revert time and make him in his 20’s. Alas, that’s not a possibility and letting Rosicky depart is the right thing to do.
I would take this moment to remind you all that Borussia Dortmund ace Marco Reus idolises the Czech midfielder. What better way than to come to Arsenal and take the number 7 jersey off his hero! Come on Marco, you know you want to…
