The news was released by Natural Grass who stated a new ‘AirFibr’ pitch was successfully put in place at the Gunners training ground earlier this year.

Arsenal have followed in the footsteps of Lyon, West Ham and Real Madrid by installing the latest the latest technology which is claimed to reduce the risk of injuries by 40%.

Arsene Wenger and his backroom staff have been under the spotlight for years following a pile-up of long-term injuries and consistent setbacks in player like Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby.

But in the midst of all that pressure, it appears the team at London Colney had been testing the new surface on some of the goalkeeper pitches for the last two years.

This pre-season it was given the go-ahead and many would argue it has already done some good for the squad, with Aaron Ramsey being the only serious injury since the season began.

So how does it work? Well, here comes the ‘sciencey’ bit. The pitch is made up of 100% natural turfĀ rooted into a synthetic rootzone which is made up of synthetic microfibres, fine sand and cork granules.

Essentially it comes down to the pitch being a lot softer, and follows the standards set on the Emirates pitch which is pretty much artificial with all of the work that goes into it.

Arsenal currently have two players out injured; Per Mertesacker, Danny Welbeck whilst Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey are continuing to work on the final stages of their fitness.
