Despite Arsene Wenger’s side being knocked out of the Champions League to Monaco, they went out winning the 2nd leg in principal and impressively too. Winning 2-0 on the night may not have been enough to secure qualification to the next round, but it does add to the team’s winning run in all competitions, winning 13 of their 15 games this year, scoring 34 goals and keeping 8 clean sheets.

Arsenal’s last defeat was indeed against Leonardo Jardim’s Monaco in that horrifying 3-1 1st leg loss, at the end of last month. Since then the Gunners have won all 5 of their matches, including a memorable FA Cup quarter-final victory away to Old Trafford last week, scoring 11 goals, keeping 2 clean sheets and conceding only 2 goals in those last 5 games.

These are impressive stats, which has seen the team’s domestic fortunes blossom because of it. The Arsenal now sit one point behind Michel Pellegrini’s second placed defending champions Manchester City in the league, having both played 29 games. Many will still consider Arsenal short of a late title bid with Chelsea having a game in hand, but they’ve at least put themselves in a great position to try, not to mention maintaining their strong top 4 credentials.

The North Londoners are yet to play Liverpool and Chelsea for a second time, and have an FA Cup semi-final against Reading to play next month, but if they continue to get results, they may find themselves even higher up the Premier League table, and possibly with another FA Cup trophy to their cabinet in May.
