It doesn’t take much to get us Arsenal fans animated about something, but when it comes to Alexis Sanchez’s future we take things very seriously.
The Chilean has raised his game even further in 2016, firing his national side to back-to-back Copa America titles and being handed the captaincy just a few months later.
As well as that, the 2016/17 campaign has given him a new role in the Arsenal team, with Wenger switching him to play as a central forward player and it’s fair to say he’s owned that position ever since.
Alexis stands on par with the greatest strikers in the world right now and is well on his way to matching Thierry Henry’s goalscoring standards as the year goes on.
But now, in a fresh interview with Arsenal Player, it seems as if the 28-year-old has lifted the lid on where his future lies amid reports contract talks have broken down with the Gunners.
We know what you’re thinking, but don’t worry it’s good news! From his comments it looks as if he’s happy with his situation at the club and trophies is the only thing on his mind.
I definitely feel like an important player and my team-mates let me know every day.
I try to prove that I am an important player every day and game after game. I believe we have the players and quality to win many things.
I feel really happy comfortable at the club.
I want to give the fans a new title. We always get our fans support in the thin and the thick, which is great. We must win the Premier League or the Champions League for them.
Alexis’ contract runs out in just under 18 months time, but Wenger is determined to get his star man to sign on the dotted line before this season draws to a close.
Not only would that secure the long-term future of a world-class player, it would also convince Mesut Ozil to hurry up commit his service to the North Londoners.
