Arsene Wenger has talked up Edinson Cavani and said there is no room for him at PSG. The Frenchman says he ‘likes him a lot’ – fuelling speculation of a January bid.
Cavani has been off-colour recently and could be available for transfer. Wenger did have a concern that Cavani was not firing on all cylinders:
“I like this player a lot, I like his spirit a lot, but a feel like he is playing with his hand on the brakes. I have the impression that he is not expressing himself entirely.
“It is true that at the same time, Ibrahimovic has taken an important place in this PSG team by all accounts, there is little space for another striker around him.”
If Arsenal did want to make a move for Edinson Cavani, they’d need to sell a few forwards. Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell are the two that look most likely to be trimmed from Arsenal’s attacking force.
Despite the comments, I really don’t see Arsenal making a move for Cavani. Especially now we have spent £16million on Danny Welbeck, it would be odd to see Wenger splash over £40million on Cavani – who turns 28 this season.
If his asking price drops to below £40million and he is available in January, there may be a small chance.
I’m intrigued to know whether or not you think Cavani would be the right signing for Arsenal at this moment. Money isn’t really an issue with £170million in cash reserves. Let me know by commenting below.
