Interesting Fact: Was named the world’s most promising youngster in 2011 by a FIFA poll.
Arsenal beat off interest from Liverpool and Juventus to sign Barcelona starlet Alexis Sanchez for a hefty price, believed to be in the region of £30-35 million. He started his club career off at Cobreloa, before being snapped up by Udinese in 2006. Two consecutive loan moves at Colo-Colo and River Plate followed though, and it wasn’t until 2008 until Sanchez made his Seria A debut. He shined in Italy, and after 3 seasons in which he played over 100 games, notching up 21 goals he was snapped up by Spanish giants Barcelona. It took him a while to get going in Catalonia, but last term he really found his feet scoring 21 times in 54 appearances. The arrival of a certain Luis Suarez this Summer meant he was surplus to requirements, and Barcelona decided to cash in. He has started well in North London, and there is definitely a lot more to come.
How Much Will He Play?
With all the quality Sanchez possesses he should play the majority of games for Arsenal this season. When Walcott is back to full fitness I’d expect to see Sanchez operate from the left hand side in what could be one of the most exciting front fours the premier league has ever seen. With Ozil and Welbeck alongside him, and with Walcott on the other flank the Gunners will scare the living daylights out of the opposition. Once it all clicks into place Arsenal should be scoring left, right and centre, but much of this will depend on Sanchez’s performance levels and the amount he plays.
How Well Will He Do?
Sanchez has all the required attributes to be a top striker or winger in the Premier League. His pace and power is frightening and his close ball control and tenaciousness to regain possession makes him a nightmare to play against. Of course it will take him a bit of time to adjust to the demands of the division, but once he has settled he’ll do very well and will be a major asset in the Arsenal side.
