Gossip: Arsenal prepare £60m bid, enquire for Javi Martinez and contact Diego’s agent

As the season draws to a close, the gossip begins. We will be bringing you an Arsenal filtered gossip column throughout the summer. Today reports suggest Arsenal have enquired for Javi Martinez of Bayern Munich, are preparing a £12million offer for Schneiderlin and a £60million bid for Cavani. See all the Arsenal transfer news in our Gossip Column

Arsenal have made an approach to Bayern Munich for transfer of Javi Martinez (Telegraph). Javi Martinez is exactly what Arsenal are missing and this story comes from a pretty reputable source in Jeremy Wilson. It is a lot for a defensive midfielder, but he is of the quality to be worth such an amount. Fernandinho and more recently Matic for Chelsea have proven what difference investing in a top quality defensive midfielder can make.

Arsenal are preparing a £12million offer to Southampton for Morgan Schneiderlin (Daily Star). Schneiderlin has many attributes needed in order to make the step up and join Arsenal. He is the type of player that is not afraid to put a tackle in, you may remember the crunching but well timed tackle on Ozil earlier on in the season! If we want to save money in this area then signing Schneiderlin over someone like Martinez would be a wise move – it would also free up more funds for a World Class striker to be purchased.

Laurent Koscielny has agreed a new 5-year contract that will keep him at the club until he is 33 (Fresh Arsenal). If Koscielny does indeed sign the new contract, it would keep him at the club until 2019, a year where he would be turning 33 years-old. Keeping Koscielny is key to keeping Arsenal competitive. He is probably the most wanted Arsenal player this summer. The duo of Per Mertsacker and Laurent Koscielny has kept club captain Thomas Vermaelen on the sidelines for the majority of the Premier League season.

Arsenal are preparing a record-breaking £60million bid for Edinson Cavani (Caught Offside). First of all.. this one comes from Caught Offside so it is worth ignoring. However let’s consider the possibility of Arsenal signing Cavani. It’d take the most part of our summer budget but it would help the Gunners get to the next level and there is a possibility that he would leave the club, with Ibrahimovic hogging the limelight in Paris. He won the league with PSG this season and so might want another challenge and to move to a club where he will lead the line rather than play on the wing.

Arsenal have contacted Diego Ribas’ agent. He is out of contract in the summer and wants to earn around £75,000 per-week (Fichajes). For free he’d certainly be a decent addition, but it doesn’t really make sense. £75,000 per week is still a lot of money and we have just signed up Rosicky for an extension who is of a similar age and position. There would be little point to this transfer other than to add depth to our most clogged area of the squad.

Carlos Vela has stated he will ‘not close the door’ on a return to Arsenal this summer (Fresh Arsenal). There’s no denying that the price is a big plus for a player who has 19 goals and 13 assists this season, playing predominately on the wing, an excellent return. His versatility is also attractive, as a player who can play on the last man and be played through, or as a more creative winger, whether it be on the left, or an inverted one, and he would offer an upgrade on Sanogo as backup for Giroud, who looked in need of a rest towards the end of March.

Would you prefer to see Arsenal invest £30million in Javi Martinez or save money for a big name striker by opting for the cheaper Schneiderlin? Comment below with your thoughts.
