Arsenal have opted not to invest, rather than invest in the wrong players in recent windows, and this means that when they really want to pursue a high value asset, they have the financial firepower to do so.
Like with Declan Rice, the club have shown the willingness to spend big when the right player becomes available, and it looks like the next big signing may well be in the works.
The club are reportedly prepared to spend over €120million (£100million) on a top-tier striker, aiming to secure Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
This potential deal would match the club’s record-breaking purchase of Rice and mark a major financial commitment as Arsenal look to solidify their title aspirations.
The latest report of interest comes from Fichajes, but Arsenal have been regularly linked with a move for Isak (Guardian).
Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad for £60 million and quickly proved himself a standout forward in the Premier League. Known for his speed, technical skill, and goal-scoring instinct, Isak has become a vital part of Newcastle’s attack, despite some injuries impacting his consistency. Last season, he delivered key goals and assists, establishing himself as one of the league’s brightest young strikers.
Having just turned 25, he is an early prime player and this is often the age Arsenal are happy to invest in.
Arsenal’s interest highlights their commitment to building a high-calibre squad under Arteta, with Isak seen as the ideal addition to their forward line. A move for Isak would inject fresh quality into the team, helping Arsenal to remain competitive at the top of the table. Predominantly a centre-forward, Isak could also play from the left.
Whilst Isak has a contract until 2028, he is said to be frustrated at not receiving a big pay rise like Bruno Guimaeres, and Newcastle currently lack the financial flexibility to offer it to him.
If the transfer goes through, it would not only set a new record for Arsenal but also for Newcastle, marking their most expensive sale. Though Isak has yet to respond to the rumours, the switch would be a significant blow to Newcastle, who have relied on his talent as they establish themselves among England’s top clubs.
