Report: Arsenal in negotiations with two right backs that would improve first XI

One area that has been really poor and inconsistent for Arsenal for some time has been at right-back. Since Hector Bellerin lost his form, Arsenal have struggled for consistency and quality in that area of the pitch.

Many Arsenal fans had hoped that a new right-back would be one of the arrivals this summer, but links to new players in that position have been extremely limited.

Until today. According to The Athletic, Bellerin is now actively pushing for a move away from the club and is frustrated that Edu Gaspar has not negotiated his exit from the club yet. They even go as far to say that he is desperate to leave Arsenal.

It’s fair to say that Arsenal fans are unlikely to have any issues with Hector wanting to leave either. The Spaniard’s form has been indifferent at best for a number of years now, and it’s time that the club found an upgrade in that position.

But who could join? As Arsenal search for a new club for Bellerin whilst also seeking a right-back of their own, a swap deal could make sense.

According to the same report in The Athletic, Arsenal are exploring two possible swap deals. The first is for Barcelona’s 22-year-old Brazil international full-back Emerson Royal and the other Atletico Madrid’s 30-year-old England defender Kieran Trippier.

Two very different age profiles, but from what we’ve seen from the duo, both players would provide a significant upgrade on the clubs’ current options there.

The report says that nothing is advanced, but that these are two deals that the club are exploring.

Arsenal cannot afford to play another Premier League season rotating between three or four right-backs. It’s time to identify the first choice eleven and find some consistency in this team.
