Report: Arsenal ‘doing everything’ to sign best young midfielder in Europe

Arsenal appear ready to make some serious moves in the transfer market this summer and reports emerging from across the continent seem to suggest the club are ready to lock horns with some elite clubs for their transfer targets.

A report from a reliable French source, Le10Sport, suggests that Arsenal are doing everything to be perfectly positioned to sign Eduardo Camavinga this summer. The Gunners appear to have made the 18-year-old midfielder their top priority this summer.

Under contract with Rennes until June 2022, the much-coveted French midfielder could be available for a reasonable price. The challenge will not be the finances, but it will be in trying to convince him to join Arsenal ahead of many elite European clubs who are also said to be interested.

Camavinga is widely regarded as one of the best young central midfielders in the world. He’s already performed on the biggest stage, in the Champions League for Rennes this season and has had several very impressive performances in Ligue 1 this term, where despite being just 18, he is a regular starter.

He predominantly plays in a deep central midfield role, so would provide competition for Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey at the heart of Arsenal’s midfield. Beyond Xhaka and Partey Arsenal have Elneny, Ceballos, Guendouzi and Torreira as options. Ceballos loan is set to expire and the club are likely to look to sell Guendouzi and Torreira this summer, leaving a clear route to first-team football for Camavinga.

This ability to play first-team football in the Premier League is a huge selling point for Arsenal, something the likes of PSG and Real Madrid are less likely to be able to offer.
