Arsenal’s midfield is certainly an area that requires attention, and according to reports across the continent, the Gunners could be looking close to home in order to find a solution.
According to Norweigan source VG, Arsenal are interested in signing Sander Berge from Sheffield United, reigniting long lasting interest in the 22-year-old midfielder. According to VG’s information, Arsenal were also very interested before he joined Sheffield United. ‘The interest has definitely not been harmed by his achievements in recent months’ – they say.
The same source suggests a number of other big clubs have been keeping a close eye on Berge, who aged 22, has put in some eye catching performances for struggling Sheffield United.
Joining the club for £20million, Sheffield will probably want in the region of £30million to even consider parting with their star midfielder.
The 6ft 5’ midfielder combines great dribbling abilities with strong passing and physical skills, and aged just 22, already plays with maturity beyond his years.
Arsenal may be looking to replicate Liverpool’s model, with the dominant Premier League Champions recruiting a number of young, established Premier League players in recent years, leading to them performing at an exceptionally high standard.
The Gunners are struggling for creativity right now and whilst Berge could be a good signing, he will not produce in the final third very often. It’s possible Berge could be seen as a replacement for someone like Lucas Torreira or Granit Xhaka, with the later seemingly out of favour since the arrival of Thomas Partey.
