Report: Arteta tried to sign Juventus midfielder in January, could join Arsenal this summer

Arsenal will be in the market for new signings this summer and one area new boss Mikel Arteta will surely be looking to improve is the midfield.

Arsenal’s midfield clearly lacks structure, defensive discipline, the ability to build attacks from deep and some physical strength. On paper, Adrien Rabiot ticks the majority of those boxes. Aged 25, the player is yet to reach his potential after looking so promising as a youngster in Paris.

According to CalcioMercato, just one year after joining, Rabiot is ready to leave Juventus.

The report later goes on to say that Rabiot spoke to Arsenal and Arteta in January about a loan move, but that in the end Juventus decided to keep the player.

Rabiot would likely replace Xhaka in the Arsenal starting line up. His extra ability in the air and in the tackle would certainly be welcome in that position.

Arsenal have been linked with moves for Rabiot throughout his career. Back in 2015 we covered a story which suggested he was ready to move to London on a temporary basis.

Could Rabiot’s time at Arsenal be about to arrive? If the Frenchman can focus his energy and control his perceived attitude issues, then he could be a great addition to Arsenal.

Finances could be an issue this summer but considering Juventus signed him for nothing last year and they are not playing him frequently, Arsenal should be able to come to a deal for the midfielder if they want to. The player wanting out could help this one move along.

This is certainly one to watch.
