Life after Aubameyang? Arsenal swoop for young striker with incredible international record

It looks like Arsenal may be preparing for life without their star player Aubameyang, if the latest reports are to be believed.

Aubameyang will have just 12 months remaining on his contract this summer and after losing Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey for minimal fees, the Gunners can no longer afford for their star players to run their contracts down. Should Aubameyang refuse to extend his deal at Arsenal, then the club are likely to put him on the market this summer and suitors are unlikely to be short in the star forward.

And according to The Sun, Arsenal are eyeing Jonathan David as his potential replacement. David, 20, has been very impressive in Belgium and for his country Canada, where he already has 11 senior goals, in just 12 appearances.

Alexandre Lacazette’s future is also up in the air and the Gunners may opt for a more youthful frontline moving forward with the likes of David, Gabriel Martinelli, Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson as offensive options in their front three.

It would be a big ask for David to come in and replace Aubameyang’s goals and impact immediately, but the Canadian clearly has great potential and the club could invest the money they receive for Aubameyang elsewhere, as David could reportedly cost just £17.5million.
