Arsenal are preparing to begin their summer clear-out by shifting out a defender who’s been known as Mr. Consistent over the years.
Since joining back in 2013, you always know what you’re going to get when Nacho Monreal steps out on the pitch, something that could be no more.
That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who understand Roma have been scouting the 31-year-old for the majority of the 2016/17 season in hope of a summer move.
The Serie A side are keeping tabs on Monreal because they’re still failing to agree terms on Emerson Palmieri’s contract extension.
Palmieri is considering his options with Chelsea and Manchester City hoping to get hold of his services, meaning Monreal could be a sure fire back-up.
Many Arsenal fans believe Monreal has completed his time in North London and is one of the names topping everyone’s list of players that should be moved on.
Arsene Wenger has already attempted to justify keeping hold of Monreal because of experience, but when you’ve got Mertesacker staying on I don’t see the point.
With Kieran Gibbs and Cohen Bramall the current options behind the Spaniard, it already seems like Arsenal have found his replacement.
Sead Kolasinac has agreed terms with the Gunners and reportedly completed a medical ahead of joining officially at the end of June.
That means Arsenal are clear to let one of Gibbs or Monreal pack their bags, and when it comes down to who can cut it for another season, there’s only one answer.
Monreal had his best season with the club last year, but it now seems he’s peaked and costly mistakes against Bayern, Liverpool and Middlesbrough in 2017 have cast doubt over his ability once again.
